CLASS SERIES

5 Week Ongoing Classes Sessions

LINDY 1

Discover the joyous fun of the original swing dance, Lindy Hop! We start from the very beginning and make this class series accessible to everyone, regardless of experience. Get ready to have a whole lot of fun!

Pre-req NONE Tempo: 120-145 beats per minute

LINDY 2A, 2B, 2C

Improve your fundamentals from Lindy 1 and expand your assortment of moves. Additional turns and Charleston patterns while upping your lead/follow skills and ability to intermix timings. 2a, 2b, and 2c can be taken in any order. Different material in each series.

Pre-req Lindy 1  Tempo: 125-155 beats per minute.

LINDY 2.5

Explore more challenging lindy 2 level material. Different steps intermixed each time. Pre-req: Completion of Lindy 1. Completion of any lindy 2 class highly encouraged.

Lindy 2.5: All Play All Play means those who wish can switch back and forth between leading and following throughout the class and learn both parts! Note that the All Play element is optional. You are welcome to dance one role only.

LINDY 3

You have become comfortable with the material from the lindy 2 series.  Timing and styling variations are explored along with deeper partnering concepts. Classes are themed each session. Pre-req: Completion of Lindy 2A, 2B, and 2C or instructor permission 

Lindy 3: Twists & Turns Find new rhythms and stylings for all of your turns. Extra emphasis on twists (swivels) for the followers and ways to style them.

Lindy 3: Tidying Up "Marie Kondo" your lindy hop. Find ways to create and add on by simplifying everything you do. Find control and focus on the elements that make your lindy hop really work!

LINDY 4

You are looking to form your own “global lindy hop concept.”  How does this dance work?  Details and ideas that will keep you up at night! Class is themed each session.

Lindy 4: Swing That Music Go deep into the music. DEEP! Learn how to structure your phrasing. Grab onto individual elements of songs and use it for inspiration to create.

Pre-req: Lindy Hop 3 at least two times or instructor permission.  Tempo:  100-270 beats per minute

SOLO JAZZ

Explore the fun of solo swing, boogie, and Charleston steps.  Classic and  “new classic” routines are broken down in accessible ways. 

Pre-req: Varies by series

Beginner Balboa Intensive with guest instructors, Robin Nunnally & Dan Newsome. Ready to learn an entirely different swing dance in one afternoon? Come enjoy the shuffling rhythms of Balboa!

The Stew Learn the sensational solo jazz routine, The Stew! Explosive and dynamic, this one will really move you!

Mix It Up Intermix moves and methods for trading off leading and following. We’ll all be dancing both roles.

Solo Charleston Get kickin’ with this fun mix of solo charleston steps.

Partnership Be a better partner! Learn how to develop and practice with your partner. Discover helpful tools for developing feedback. Find methods to break down your own dancing.

CLASS HELPER

*Special Offer for Lindy 2 and up students*

Join Lindy 1 and help support our newest Swing It Seattle students. Class Helpers must be fully registered for at least one other class series and willing to dance both roles.

Lindy 3: The Frankie Archive

Go beyond the classic steps taught in our Lindy 2 series. Using material (much of which is not publicly available), we will recreate some incredibly fun material from lindy hop's greatest ambassador, Frankie Manning. Clips will be shown after class to connect you to the source material.

Lindy 3: Easy Does It

Find a good groove with comfy material for mid-tempo songs. Lots of styling variations with a focus on keeping relaxed timing.

Solo Jazz: The Big Apple

Learn the iconic solo jazz routine, The Big Apple. Choreographed by Frankie Manning in 1943 for the film, "Keep Punchin'", this routine is high energy and incredibly fun. The Big Apple is celebrated by lindy hoppers all around the world!

Pre-req: Lindy 3 or Solo Jazz

Lindy Frankie Favorites

Discover the magic of dancing in the style and spirt of lindy hop's greatest ambassador, Frankie Manning. Steps will be taught at gentle pace with a mix of partnered and solo steps All steps eventually connect to form one of Frankie Manning's final routines. This is a great class to get a sense of "flow" within your lindy hop.
